Required CE Hours

Producers

24 CE hours*, including 3 hours of ethics and 3 hours of Oregon law (statutes & administrative rules), are required every 2-year license term.

Note: No more than four hours is allowed for approved agency management courses.

Special Training/Education Requirements

Annuity Training Requirement

  • Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products in Oregon, producers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours.

Long-Term Care (LTC)

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products in Oregon, producers must complete an initial 8-hour, state-approved LTC training course. Producers may take any 8-hr NAIC approved LTC course for use in any licensed state.
  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the initial 8-hour training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of state-approved LTC training in every 24-month period thereafter. Producers may take any 4-hr NAIC approved LTC course for use in any licensed state.

Flood Insurance

All Oregon property producers who sell flood insurance must complete a one-time, 3-hour course approved for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) training.

Adjusters

No continuing education is required for adjusters or consultants.

Non-Resident CE Requirements

Non-resident producers in good standing with their home state are exempt from Oregon CE requirements.  However, nonresident producers selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC products have special training or education requirements as described below:

Long-Term Care (LTC)

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products in Oregon, producers must complete an initial 8-hour, state-approved LTC training course. Nonresident producers may take any 8-hr NAIC approved LTC course for use in any licensed state.
  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the initial 8-hour training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of state-approved LTC training in every 24-month period thereafter. Nonresident producers may take any 4-hr NAIC approved LTC course for use in any licensed state.
License Term

The license term is every 2 years, based on the last day of the producer’s birth month. 

· Producers who were born in an even-numbered year will be required to complete their CE in even-numbered years.  

· Producers who were born in an odd-numbered year will be required to complete their CE in odd-numbered years.

Course Repetition Rules

A course may not be taken for credit more than once within a 2-year license term.

CE Carryover Allowance

No excess CE credit hours may be carried over to the next 2-year license term.

CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from Oregon CE requirements:

  •   Non-resident producers in good standing with their home state.
Final Exam Requirements

Exam proctor requirements:

  • Online:  Online, self-study courses do not require a monitor.
  • Paper:  Paper-based courses and exams are required to be proctored by a state-registered proctor or a third party who is one of the following: a city, county or state public librarian; an employee of a state college or university; an employee of a private college or university other than those that are owned by or operated primarily for the insurance industry; an employee of a law office; or a currently licensed certified public accountant.

Exam rules:

  • Online: Once the exam is opened for an online course, access to the course material is restricted until the exam has been graded.
  • Paper: The final exam for paper-based courses is closed book, and no outside information may be used to complete the exam. 

The final exam for all delivery methods must be passed with a 70 percent or higher to receive credit. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

Roster Fees

A roster fee of $1.00 per credit hour ordered is required to process course completion hours in Oregon and will be added to the order total upon checkout.
