Changes for Kansas Insurance Continuing Education

Kansas continuing education (CE) requirements for licensed insurance producers will change due to the passage of Senate Bill 37. These changes and their effective dates are outlined below.

Effective July 1, 2021

Proctors will no longer be required for self-study final exams for resident licensed producers completing their Kansas insurance continuing education.

The license renewal date for all Kansas producers is changing from their date of birth to the last day of their birth month. A producer’s license term in Kansas is every 2 years, based on their date of birth. Producers born in an even-numbered year are required to complete their CE in even-numbered years by the end of their birth month. Producers born in an odd-numbered year are required to complete their CE in odd-numbered years by the end of their birth month.

Effective January 1, 2022

The total number of Kansas insurance continuing education credits that must be completed in each biennial cycle is changing. Kanasas resident producers who hold a line of authority for a major line(s) (Life and/or Health, Property and/or Casualty, Personal Lines) will now have a total of 18 hours required. Of those 18 hours, 3 of the hours must in ethics credits. The remaining 15 hours are at the producer’s discretion, so long as the hours are approved by the Department. There is no longer a limit for the number of hours of “Insurance Agency Management” (IAM) CE courses that a licensed producer may take.

Resident producers will begin to renew their licenses through NIPR (www.nipr.com).  All resident producers, regardless of lines of authority, are required to pay a $4.00 biennial license renewal fee which will be collected by NIPR at their first biennial renewal date following January 1, 2022.
