Required CE Hours

Producers

24 CE hours*, including 3 hours of ethics, are required every 2-year license term.

Special Training/Education Requirement

Long-Term Care (LTC) Insurance

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Producers licensed to sell LTC insurance products in Vermont after March 31, 2010, must complete a one-time initial 8-hour NAIC LTC training course before they can sell, solicit, or negotiate LTC Products. 2 hours must contain Vermont-specific information including Vermont Medicaid information. 
  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the 8-hour initial training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of LTC training on or before March 31 of odd-numbered calendar years.

Flood Insurance

Producers with Property and Casualty authorities who write flood insurance must complete a one-time 3-hour training class on flood insurance and the National Flood Insurance Program. 

Non-Resident CE Requirements

A nonresident Vermont producer is deemed to have satisfied the CE requirement if they are in good standing in their state of residence.  Regarding Vermont-specific LTC training, see Special Training/Education Requirements below.

Long-Term Care (LTC) Insurance

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Producers licensed to sell LTC insurance products in Vermont after March 31, 2010, must complete a one-time initial 8-hour NAIC LTC training course before they can sell, solicit, or negotiate LTC Products.  Note: 2 hours must contain Vermont-specific information including Vermont Medicaid information. 
  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the 8-hour initial training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of LTC training on or before March 31 of odd-numbered calendar years
  • Vermont Medicaid and the Long-Term Care Partnership Program: Nonresidents who have completed another state’s qualified LTCP course will need to complete a 2-hour Vermont specific Medicaid course.
License Term

The license term is 2 years ending March 31 in odd-numbered years.

Course Repetition Rules

Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in a 2-year license term.

CE Carryover Allowance

Carryover of excess CE credit hours is not allowed.

CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from CE requirements:

  • Producers licensed less than 2 years at the time of first renewal.
  • Limited Line Representatives, including Title Insurance, Travel Accident, and Travel Baggage Insurance
  • Nonresident licensees in good standing with their home state
  • Property and Casualty adjusters
  • Public adjusters
  • Crop adjusters
Final Exam Requirements

Exam proctor requirements

Self-study final exams are required to be monitored by a disinterested third party. The monitor can be any impartial person who is not concerned with the result of the examination or the success of the student. The monitor cannot be related (by family) to the student. (Examples of impartial persons are teachers, librarians, church leaders, neighbors, etc.)

Exam rules

Self-study final exams are closed book. Students may not refer to the course material while the exam is in progress. The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

Roster Fees

A roster fee of $1.50 per credit hour ordered is required to process course completion hours in Vermont and will be added to the order total upon checkout.

What do the Version A and Version B mean? LTC renewal training must be completed every 2 years. Most states will not allow the same CE course to be repeated during a single compliance period or the subsequent compliance period. We strongly advise that you alternate between the online versions in order to ensure you can earn CE credit towards your license renewal. If your last course was completed in the classroom or you have never taken a course with us before, choose Version A.
