Flood Insurance

Resident producers who sell federal flood insurance policies must complete a one-time 3-hour course approved for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

Annuities

Suitability in Annuities training requirements is effective November 1, 2015. Existing producers have until 5/1/2016 to complete a one-time 4 hour annuity course; producers hired after must complete a course before representing annuities.

Special Training/Education Requirements

Long-Term Care (LTC)

  • Initial 8-hour training requirement: Before selling, soliciting or negotiating LTC insurance products in Tennessee, producers must complete an initial 8-hour training course.
  • Ongoing 4-hour training requirement: After meeting the initial training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of state-approved LTC training in every 24-month period following the initial training.

Note: Nonresident producers who have completed a Long-term care training requirement for another state will satisfy the training requirements for Tennessee

License Term

The license term is the last day of the licensee’s birth month every 2 years.  Licensees who were born in an even-numbered year will be required to complete their CE in even-numbered years.  Licensees who were born in an odd-numbered year will be required to complete their CE in odd-numbered years.

Course Repetition Rules

A course may not be taken for credit more than once within 2 calendar years from the previous completion date.

Note: Producers in your first CE Compliance Period: Please check your SBS transcript before ordering. If your first CE Compliance Period is for longer than 2 calendar years (For example: 3/30/2011-1/31/2014), you will not receive credit for a course repeated within this Compliance Period, even though the course may have been completed more than 2 calendar years from the previous completion date.

CE Carryover Allowance

Producers may carry over a maximum of 12 excess credit hours to the next license term. However, this carryover allowance does not apply to ethics CE credit requirements. Excess ethics hours will be counted as general credit.  Any course hours carried over to the next renewal will be counted as duplicate if the same course is taken again.

CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from CE requirements:

  • Limited Lines producers
  • Public adjusters licensed less than 1 full year
  • An insurance producer who has been continuously licensed since January 1, 1994.
  • Nonresident public adjusters who have met the CE requirements in their home state, which MUST reciprocate with TN, are not required to complete CE requirements for Tennessee.

In addition, producers who have been licensed continuously since Jan. 1, 1994, are still required to complete the initial LTC 8-hour requirement, but they are exempt from the ongoing training 4-hour LTC course.

What do the Version A and Version B mean? LTC renewal training must be completed every 2 years. Most states will not allow the same CE course to be repeated during a single compliance period or the subsequent compliance period. We strongly advise that you alternate between the online versions in order to ensure you can earn CE credit towards your license renewal. If your last course was completed in the classroom or you have never taken a course with us before, choose Version A. If you are still unsure about which course to take, check your history under "My Courses" or contact customer support.
