Required CE Hours

Producers (Accident & Health, Life, Life Accident & Health, and Variable Life & Annuity)

24 CE hours* are required every 2-year license term.

Producers renewing their license on or after July 1, 2016 will be required to complete 3 credit hours of ethics training during each two-year renewal cycle.

Adjusters

24 CE hours are required every 2-year license term.

Limited Lines Producers

Licenses issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2012 will no longer be required to complete CE. 

Special Training/Education Requirements

Annuity Training Requirement

Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products in Indiana, producers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours

Long-Term Care (LTC)

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before marketing, selling, or soliciting any LTC products, a producer must initially complete an 8-hour basic LTC continuing education course specifically approved for LTC. The 8 hours may be counted as part of the required CE credits for the compliance period in which they were completed.
  • Ongoing 5-hour LTC training requirement: Producers satisfying the initial 8-hour requirement must complete a minimum of 5 hours of LTC insurance courses every 2 years.
  • Long-Term Care Partnership (LTCP) Long-Term Care Partnership program requirement: Producers who will sell LTC policies under the Indiana Long-Term Care Partnership (ILTCP) program must satisfy a one-time 7-hour training requirement in addition to the initial 8-hour LTC training requirement, for a total of 15 hours. The 7-hour ILTCP must be completed in a classroom.

Flood Insurance

All Indiana property and casualty producers who sell flood insurance must complete a one-time 3-hour training class on flood insurance and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

Non-Resident CE Requirements

Non-resident producers who have satisfied their home state's continuing education requirement are exempt. Nonresident adjusters who satisfy the adjuster requirement in their resident state will be deemed compliant for the Indiana adjuster requirement.  If their resident state does not have an adjuster requirement, then they must complete 24 hours of approved Indiana CE.

Special Training/Education Requirements

Annuity Training Requirement

Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products in Indiana, producers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours.  *Nonresidents who satisfy the annuity training requirements in another state with substantially similar annuityrequirements, will be deemed compliant.

Long-Term Care Partnership (LTCP)

Long-Term Care Partnership program requirement: Producers who will sell LTC policies under the Indiana Long-Term Care Partnership (ILTCP) program must satisfy a one-time 7-hour training requirement in addition to the initial 8-hour LTC training requirement, for a total of 15 hours. The 7-hour LTCP must be completed in a classroom. 

 

License Term

Producers’ license will expire on the last day of their birth month, every 2 years.

Course Repetition Rules

A course may not be taken for credit more than once within a 2-year licensing term. This includes Indiana-specific LTC courses.

CE Carryover Allowance

Excess hours accumulated during any renewal period may not be carried over to the next renewal.

CE Exemptions
  • Nonresident producers are exempt if home state CE requirements are met and a printout indicating resident compliance is submitted to IDOI.
  • Nonresident producers are exempt from the regular long-term care requirement (but not from the Indiana Partnership Long-Term Care Program requirement). 
Final Exam Requirements

Exam Proctor requirements

Self-study final exams must be proctored by an Indiana-licensed insurance producer.

Exam rules

The final exam is closed book and must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher. Students have unlimited retakes.

Roster Fees

A roster fee of $4.00 per course is required to process course completion hours in Indiana and will be added to the order total upon checkout.
