Required CE Hours

Producers (Life & Health, Property & Casualty, Combination License)

Licensed LESS than 20 years

24 CE hours*, including 3 hours of ethics every 2 years.

Licensed 20 years or MORE

20 CE hours*, including 3 hours of ethics every 2 years.

Credit Insurance Producers Only

10 CE hours are required every 2 years. No ethics requirements.

Limited Subagent Only

10 CE hours are required every 2 years. No ethics requirements.

Professional Designations

Individuals holding the following professional designations are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education with 3 of those being in ethics: CPCU, CLU, FLMI, CIC, Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), ChFC, Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI), Certified Financial Planer (CFP), or a major BBA in Risk Management and Insurance from an accredited college.

Special Training/Education Requirements

Category restrictions

Students must take courses in the line for which they hold a license.

  • Limited Subagent Only License – can take any CE course approved if they hold only a limited subagent license. No ethics is required.
  • Limited subagent combination license – If a limited subagent licensee holds another life/health, Property/Casualty or Adjuster license, they must complete courses in the license type they hold. Ethics will be required.
  • Credit Insurance Only License – can take any CE course approved if they hold only a limited subagent license. No ethics is required.
  • Credit Insurance combination license – If a limited subagent licensee holds another life/health, Property/Casualty or Adjuster license, they must complete courses in the license type they hold. Ethics will be required.
  • Initial 8-hour LTC Partnership training requirement: Before selling LTC insurance products in Georgia, producers must complete an initial 8-hour, state-approved LTC training course. 
  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC Partnership training requirement: After completing the initial 8-hour LTCP requirement, producers must complete a 4-hour follow-up training course every 24 months after completion of the initial training. 
  • Georgia Medicaid and the Long-Term Care Partnership Program: Residents who have completed another state’s qualified LTCP course will need to complete a 2-hour Georgia specific Medicaid course.

Long-Term Care Partnership (LTCP)

  • Initial 8-hour LTC Partnership training requirement: Before selling LTC insurance products in Georgia, producers must complete an initial 8-hour, state-approved LTC training course. 
  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC Partnership training requirement: After completing the initial 8-hour LTCP requirement, producers must complete a 4-hour follow-up training course every 24 months after completion of the initial training. 
  • Georgia Medicaid and the Long-Term Care Partnership Program: Residents who have completed another state’s qualified LTCP course will need to complete a 2-hour Georgia specific Medicaid course.

NFIP Flood Training

Agents licensed in the property line of authority that will be selling through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) must complete a one time 3-hour continuing education course related to NFIP. 

Annuities

Effective March 1st 2016, newly licensed Georgia brokers and producers must complete a four-hour state-approved annuity course before representing annuity products. Those licensed prior to that date have until September 1st, 2016 to complete a course.

Non-Resident CE Requirements

Nonresident producers planning to sell the following products have special training or education requirements as described below.

Special Training/Education Requirements

Long-Term Care Partnership (LTCP)

  • Initial 8-hour LTC Partnership training requirement: Before selling LTC insurance products in Georgia, producers must complete an initial 8-hour, state-approved LTC training course.

  • Georgia Medicaid and the Long-Term Care Partnership Program: Residents who have completed another state’s qualified LTCP course will need to complete a 2-hour Georgia specific Medicaid course.
License Term

The license term is every 2 years ending on the last day of the licensee's birth month.  

Course Repetition Rules

Credit will not be given for the same Continuing Education Course taken multiple times within the same CE reporting period.

CE Carryover Allowance

Credit for continuing education earned in one filing period in excess of the hours required may be carried forward to the next filing period, provided that credit carried forward shall not exceed fifty percent (50%) of biennial continuing education requirement. 

Note: Excess ethics hours will carryover as general credit only.

CE Exemptions

Any person may receive a reduction or exemption in continuing education hours required to the extent of the time spent on insurance related activities during the previous years. Such activity shall include, but not limited to, the following related or occupational duties:

  • Insurance related legislative activities
  • Teaching courses in insurance related topics
  • Journalism activities involving insurance related topics
  • Projects involving research of insurance laws and regulations

Note: Nonresident adjusters are not required to complete the Georgia CE requirement. 

Final Exam Requirements

Exam proctor requirements

Exams require a proctor be present. Proctors must be a Disinterested Third Party and shall NOT serve for examinations of: family members or relatives or dependents, employers or supervisors, employees or subordinates, partners or joint ventures or co-owners, or for anyone in whom the proctor or instructor has an economic or other interest in assuring the successful outcome of the examination.

Exam rules

Exams are closed book. Course material will not be available when completing the exam. A 70% or higher is required to pass the exam. Students have unlimited retakes.

What do the Version A and Version B mean? LTC renewal training must be completed every 2 years. Most states will not allow the same CE course to be repeated during a single compliance period or the subsequent compliance period. We strongly advise that you alternate between the online versions in order to ensure you can earn CE credit towards your license renewal. If your last course was completed in the classroom or you have never taken a course with us before, choose Version A.
